This tree had already dropped a 50 foot "branch" (20+ inches in diameter at the base), almost smashing the corner of the barn - missed the barn corner you see at the start of the video by about three feet. The tree was only about 8-10 feet away from the barn. We worked a previous weekend for about 4 hours just getting the control line into the tree - a crossbow with fine line attached to an arrow, finally finished with tow straps. Got two arrows stuck up there after 4 lines got wedged in the crotch. You can see the arrow as a fluorescent orange shaft in a couple of the pictures and in the video. About halfway through the fall in the video you can see where the 50 foot "branch" connected and watch the other two branches start to crack away from the trunk - keep an eye on the arrow and control line. The rotted joint is in the pictures too. Like Mike says after it came down, it shook the ground when it landed! Thanks to Chris for the video and pictures!
The 100+ feet comes from a tape measure and the 100+ years comes from counting growth rings.
Here's a video of it coming down: Make it full-screen by clicking the "expand" arrows at the bottom after you start it...
